The dwarven quarry of Ghost­rock Delve was hastily abandoned after a recent collapse that uncovered a horrifying predator. Only cries of a wounded survivor break the eerie silence.

Background

The mine called Ghostrock Delve has been developed for just a couple of months by a local dwarven community from a small frontier town called Brightshore.

Two days ago, a collapse in one of the newly dug galleries revealed a network of natural caverns. No one was harmed in the collapse itself, but one of the caverns had been chosen by a grick as a nesting site. Driven by instinct to defend its clutch, the creature attacked immediately, killing two miners on the spot. The rest fled in terror, describing the attacker as a grotesque mix of snake, worm, and octopus. Shaken by the grick’s ferocity and fearing further collapses, the dwarven community has barred re-entry until someone clears the threat.

A day ago, a layabout dwarf named Bolgrin Stone­brew, emboldened by one too many tankards of ale, decided he’d be a hero and ventured into the mine with his father’s war pick Emberstrike. He hasn’t returned.
